After being told that his players had run 13.8km less than their Brent ford counterparts, the angry Dutchman instructed them all to run that distance in scorching 33-degree temperatures.
But he then set an example to some Senior International Stars that he was also prepared to take some of the blame for the for the humiliating defeat by running with them step for step over the full 8.5-mile distance.
Ten Hag was said to have been left physically shattered by the experience – but his pain made a deep impression on his players.

Manchester United certainly improved after this as they beat their arch-rivals Liverpool at their home Old Trafford on Monday night. And they ran a combined distance of 109.4km over the 90 minutes – almost 14km more than they had managed in the Brent ford game.
According to Simon Mullock of Mirror Football, “The players were raging when they discovered their punishment for the no-show at Brent ford would be an 8.5-mile run. But the moans ceased when it became clear that the manager was planning to do the same as them.”
Erik Ten Hag again showed that team comes first and no player is Bigger than Manchester United by keeping Ronaldo, Maguire and Luke Shaw out from the starting XI to face Liverpool.
The victory and the style they adapted in the game vs Liverpool, clearly delighted the fans. And Pundits had to take their words back about the criticism for the dutchman.
Erik Ten Hag’s Post Liverpool Game :
We can talk about tactics, but it’s all about attitude. There was communication, fighting, and spirit—and then you can see what they could achieve. Of course, we are happy. I know the rivalry against Liverpool-but don’t just bring it against Liverpool. Bring this organization and intensity to every game. “
